Anti-drug campaign

A Chrictian rock-group “Druzhki” (Friends) from St. Petersburg gave concert in Transport and Road College. The concert was part of anti-drug and pro-healthy lifestyle campaign and was supported by “Concordia” Foundation.2-%d0%ba%d0%be%d1%86%d0%b5%d1%80%d1%82-%d0%b4%d1%80%d1%83%d0%b6%d0%ba%d0%b8-006

About 200 students and teachers gathered in college hall. A film containing interviews with drug addicts was shown in the beginning of the concert. Main ideas of the film are that addiction forms even after the first usage, ideas that you can try “soft” drugs, just not “hard” drugs are illusions, since a drug addict has desire for new “sensations” caused by drugs all the time. According to doctors, average expectancy life of drug-addicts is 3 to 5 years.

After the film the group leader Gera Alexeev played several of his songs. But the most amazing part of the concert were real life stories of his friends – members of the band.1_0%d0%b0%d0%b2%d1%82%d0%be%d0%b4%d0%be%d1%80%d0%be%d0%b6%d0%bd%d1%8b%d0%b9-%d0%ba%d0%be%d0%bb%d0%bb%d0%b5%d0%b4%d0%b6-%d0%ba%d0%be%d1%86%d0%b5%d1%80%d1%82-%d0%b4%d1%80%d1%83%d0%b6%d0%ba%d0%b8

One 33 year old man shared his story. He was 17 and was studying in the same college. He was a wrestler, so he got in touch with the criminal world, he wanted to be cool and have power over people. And using heroin was part of that lifesile. Later on he went to jail. That man was trying to persuade students that there is nothing romantic in drug usage and prison experience. His life changed 5 years ago, when he met God, walked free and stopped using drugs. But since that time he has been taking meds twice a day to support his organs, damaged by drugs.

Gera Alexeev shared a story of an ex-guitar player of the band, whose name was Oleg, he had performed at the concert in that Transport Road College one year before. He has recently died, one week prior his 40th birthday. And though he hadn’t been using drugs for 16 years, his experience with drugs in youth turned to be train wreck waiting to happen, which hit his body many years later.

The last story was told by a woman who also used to be an addict and serve time in prison. She told that drug addiction among women is much more dangerous that among men, because it can destroy your body much faster.

Those stories were the most touching part of the concert, and many students stayed after the concert to speak with band members in private.

After the concert everyone who wanted could get brochures “Self-control in the World of Addictions” for free. Those brochures were published by “Concordia” and they tell about fighting against different physical, mental and spiritual addictions. About 150 brochures were distributed after the concert

Songs about family life

Project of the Church of Ingria and “Concordia” Foundatin for releasing CD with Anna Mityakova songs. Anna Mityakova is a song writer and performer. Her music is about faith and Christian life. Her songs are accompanied by the guitar and the harp. It is aimed to general public.

The CD with songs about Anna Mityakova’s family called Not Only About Love was recorded with “Concordia” support.

The project authors describe the album:

Dear friend,

We are happy to introduce that album with the author’s compositions revealing the secret of family happiness to you. You might find something new for your soul on that CD as well. Nowadays when people pursue money, pleasure, we can easily forget something really important in all the hassle.

Each person looks for peace for their souls and for love. But sometimes they cannot get it. In that case we need help of the One who is Love Himself. We need faith and hope.

The CD contains songs not about love as attraction between people of different genders, but about mother’s love, spouses’ love, about Love which doesn’t seek her own and is ready to give life for you because she really loves…

New Сenter for children

A new center for children has been organized in a village Kommunar in Leningrad Region with the help of “Concordia “ Foundation. Our volunteer Olga Usupova has written to us:

“The club was opened in October in a small place about 20 square meters. All kids werekomm2 new: we had invited them through Vkontakte social network.

There were 20 people, which was a great surprise for us. We told that we were Christians  and would be speaking about God and really important thing from the very beginning. Some of the kids tensed at that, but came back next week anyway. Generally speaking, we are very happy now.

October 10th was the second meeting.

We already started preaching, spoke that God is Light and He has no darkness.

We even started speaking about sin. We are really glad that the kids started being open and communicating with us from the very beginning: they share their problems, tell what is going on in their lives. We chat in Vkontakte every day! Personally I have a feeling that we have known each other not several weeks, but a couple of months.

Now we have 27 children on our list. Each trainer has a small group of kids assigned to them, so that nobody gets lost. In January we are planning to organize a camp.

Thith is our team. komm1

500 Years of Reformation. Its Meaning for Church and Society

2017 will become 500th anniversary of Reformation. Events which followed the beginning of reformation lead to a new understanding of Christianity IMG_2297and spiritual awakening in some European and North American Countries. Historical significance of the event and the approaching anniversary have motivated us to create a series of radio programs.

Reasons for Reformation existed everywhere, but in Germany those reasons were especially strong, since on one hand, religion in the country was especially moral, and on the other hand, not many nations were so strongly humiliated by Roman Curia (political powerlessness of Germany was very convenient for Pope’s claims).

In that period political entity of Germany was in a state of delicate balance: the country lost its unity, but didn’t become a simple federation of princedoms and free cities. State reform, which could end chaotic situation, had been anticipated for a long time. One of the main questions was about relations between an emperor and princes.

Radio programs were written basing on a book by Husto Gonsales “History of Christianity”.

The project is supported by “Concordia” Foundation. Presenter is Andrey Mayershin, a Christian writer and member of Lutheran church in SPb. The recording is starting. The airing of this series is planning  on March 2016.
